Detectives investigating a gang rape in Canterbury are appealing for a taxi driver who may have information to come forward.

The alleged offence took place at a house in Downs Road on the Hales Place Estate in the early hours of Sunday, June 3.

Officers want to talk to the driver of a silver taxi which carried three people from Canterbury West to Downs Road around 11.30pm on the Saturday night.

Investigating officer PC Ali Knott said: “There is no suggestion the taxi driver has done anything wrong, but he or she may have seen or heard something during the fare that could assist us with our inquiries.

“Any information, however seemingly insignificant, could be vital and we are urging the driver to get in touch as soon as possible.”

A man aged 18 from Canterbury and a 19-year-old from London were arrested on suspicion of rape. They remain under investigation and are on bail until August 30.

Anyone with information can call the appeal line on 01843 222289 quoting reference ZY/30551/18.
