Teenager charged with assault in Canterbury

Police have a charged a teenager with assault after a series of incidents in Canterbury on Saturday.

The 17-year-old from Strood has been remanded to appear at Canterbury Youth Court today (Monday).

There had been three reports of violent incidents in the city.

The first took place between 1.15pm and 1.40pm when two men were alleged to have been assaulted and robbed on the riverside path near Kingsmead Road.

Another happened at 3pm when two further people reported being assaulted on the riverside path.

The third incident took place shortly before 9pm when a 23-year-old man was reportedly assaulted in Longmarket. The man required medical attention and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

Det Con Tom Banks said: “We are continuing to investigate the three incidents and appeal to anyone who witnessed them and hasn’t already spoken to our officers to contact us.

“We would also like to hear from anyone with information that could help our investigation.”
